May 24, 2016 | Stones for the 'Perpetuation' memorial installation are almost ready

Let us tell you some good news about the ‘Perpetuation’ memorial installation, which will become a part of the ‘Space of Synagogues’ project in Lviv. Few days ago the team of the project has visited the manufacture where the stone plates with quotations are preparing.

As you know installed on an area between the sites of the ‘Golden Rose’ remains and the former Beth Hamidrash building, it will consist of 39 differently sized stone plates, the majority of which will be inscribed with quotations.

The installation is to give voice to people who used to live in Lviv, who were Jewish, and who put their thoughts down in writing. The memorial plates will carry 21 quotations from memoirs and diaries, and the works of rabbis, thinkers, professional writers and ordinary citizens. Each quotation will be in its original language, and depending on what that is, it will be supplemented by English, Hebrew and Ukrainian translations. Most of the quotations can be categorized into three groups: those that are about pre-war Jewish life in Lviv, those about the Holocaust, and those about life after Holocaust. Among the authors are famous people and ordinary people, men and women of all ages and children.

This will be a commemorative space that invites engaging with the past through multiple individual perspectives and life stories.
